Program
Success - The Home Connection
- Provides transitional housing and supportive services to homeless families with emphasis on attaining financial independence and home ownership.
- Case management staff work with families to identify the causes of their homelessness and develop a plan, with goals, to remedy causes and attain financial independence within approximately two years.
- Is the only program for homeless families with children with single family homes and duplexes located in Des Moines neighborhoods.
- Program owns 21 housing units that typically serve 28 - 30 families per year.
- Requires at least one adult working or in an educational or job training program.
- Requires adults in the families to be involved in their children's education and development and perform community volunteer work.
- Requires that family pays 30% of their income to The Home Connection
- 10% is set aside in an escrow account established for the family.
- Funds that accrue are used to pay their past debts, if applicable.
- The balance is returned to the family when they complete the program to use as a down payment on a home, rent and rent deposit.
- The remainder goes toward utility costs, maintenance, and other program costs.
