Success at The Home Connection

Success Charts

The Home Connection provides supportive housing in Iowa for homeless families with children with an emphasis on helping the families attain financial independence through employment and education.

Our case management staff works with families to identify the causes of their homelessness and develop a plan, with goals, to remedy causes and attain financial independence within approximately two to four years.

The Home Connection is the only program with single family homes and duplexes located in Des Moines neighborhoods for homeless families with children. We own 28 housing units that allow us to serve 36+ families each year.

In order to be eligible for this program, at least one adult must be working or actively looking for employment. Parents must also be involved in their children's education and development, and volunteer in the community.

The family pays a minimum of $400.00 or 30 percent of their income, whichever is greater, to The Home Connection. Five percent is set aside in an escrow account established for the family.

When the family completes the program, the escrow balance is returned to the family to use as a down payment on a home, rent and/ or rent deposit.

 Families that completed the program:

Average Monthly Household Income Before the Program $1,283.00
Average Monthly Household Income After the Program $2,231.00
